What is a Norwegian D number?
A Norwegian D number is an identification code used in Norway for people who do not have a Norwegian social security number. It is a temporary social security number given to people who do not have the right to apply for a permanent Norwegian social security number, but who still need an identification code to, for example, work or open a bank account in Norway.
D-number consists of 11 digits and contains information about the person’s date of birth, gender and a serial number. D-numbers are valid for up to 6 months, but can be renewed if necessary.

You can apply for a Norwegian D-number at one of the Tax Agency’s service rooms, or by booking an appointment on the Tax Agency’s website .
How long does it take to get a Norwegian D number?
It usually takes up to 3 weeks to get a Norwegian D number after you apply for it. If you need a D-number faster, you can apply for it at the Tax Office’s service room and have it printed immediately.
